FOTD is a long-established
(1979) research/working group and as such during the course of its
activities its members have initiated numerous projects.
Whilst some of these projects have addressed the core interests of the group, others have not been directly relevant, most notably many of the excursions into web-publishing that have characterised the activities of some of the group's members over the years.
Moreover, as the group has become increasingly involved in political, social, and environmental issues so news-gathering and publishing activities have been pushed to the forefront.
It was decided to form fotd-publishing (a relatively new venture as of 2006) as a non-profit "umbrella" group in the nature of a collective of some members of FOTD to provide a means whereby these web-publishing ventures of individual members could be consolidated "under one roof" so to speak.
This is intended to satisfy a number of requirements...
- by having individual creative works scrutinised by the "editorial board" that comprises fotd-publishing we can maintain consistency between those works and the core projects of FOTD (though this does not preclude individual members undertaking projects independent of the publishing collective)
- and, more importantly, we can assign "ownership" of such works to the central group (established by each such work carrying a "published by fotd-publishing" imprint).
Moreover, fotd-publishing facilitates the acceptance of submissions from non-FOTD members, subject to our publishing guidelines.
